Orchestra Pre-Festival Concert Our Orchestra Pre-Festival Concert is for RCS Honor Orchestra only and it takes place at Riverwood H.S. Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday Feb.11th. The purpose of this performance is to prepare the Honor Orchestra students for their Large Group Performance Evaluation which will take place on March 2nd at Alpharetta H.S. We perform at Riverwood so that students will get used to performing on stage in a concert hall. We will have a mock judge present to critique our performance. All parents, faculty and staff are invited. Please remember that our Performance Evaluation is an annual event, much like an Olympic sports competition but for music students. It is exciting but also quite demanding.
Chorus Cluster Concert Feb. 9, 2010 The Chorus Cluster Concert will be held on Tuesday, February 9, at 4:30 PM at Riverwood High School. All the choruses from schools in our cluster will perform for each other—Lake Forest, Heards Ferry, High Point, Ridgeview, and Riverwood. Every chorus will sing two or three songs in a variety of styles. All chorus students of different ages love hearing each other perform! Ridgeview students are being driven to Riverwood by parents. Thanks so much to our chorus parents for providing transportation to the high school! Parents, family, and friends are invited to the concert, which will end at 5:30 PM. All Ridgeview chorus students should be picked up from the high school to go home by 5:30 PM that afternoon. Come and hear the wonderful choral students in our cluster—elementary through high school—sing on Tuesday, Feb. 9!

RCS Band Students in All State Band Congratulations to Audrey Lesage, French Horn, and Aaron Murray, Tuba. These two Ridgeview Band Members have been selected to the Georgia All-State Band for 2010. They competed in 2 levels of auditions for this honor. The All-State Band will meet the rehearsals on March 4 and 5 and give a concert on March 6. The event will be held in Savannah, GA.
Five RCS Chorus Students in All State Chorus Congratulations to Chamlee Brown, Piper Clark, Maria Jackson, Sadaf Mirzai, and Alima Sore for achieving the highest honor for a chorus student in middle school! These students passed two rigorous auditions in front of a panel of middle school teachers to achieve membership in the 2010 Georgia All-State Chorus. The students will travel to Savannah for the weekend of February 25-27 to rehearse with the other “best in the state” students to present a concert in the Savannah Civic Center.

Raffle Tickets in Support of our Music Department’s Washington Trip All Raffle Tickets and Money must be returned by Wednesday, December 16th—no exceptions. The Drawing is Thursday, December 17th at our Winter Holidays Concert. Winner is not required to be in attendance. The trip is being sponsored by Hawaii State Tours, David Millwood – President. The vacation raffled will take place on the Isle of Oahu. Winner may purchase upgrades when contacting Hawaii State Tours to make arrangements for the trip dates.
District Honor Band Auditions Congratulations to the following band students: Audrey Lesage, French Horn - 1st chair in district; Aaron Murray, Tuba - 2nd Chair in the district; Kyle Fears, Tuba - 3rd Chair in the District Our district is comprised of all public and private middle schools in Fulton County and the City of Atlanta. These kids will travel to Perry, Ga on January 16th to compete with students from all over Georgia for possible selection into the All-State Band.

Chorus Students to sing at Holiday Lighting Ceremony Chorus students will sing at the Heritage Sandy Springs Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, November 22. Our students will sing at 6pm at the Amphitheater Entertainment Lawn located next to Citywalk at the corner of Sandy springs Place and Bluestone Road. Everyone is invited!

Pizza and String Quartet Evening at RCS This Friday night, Nov. 6th from 4-7 p.m. all 7th and 8th grade orchestra students will enjoy a PIZZA and STRING QUARTET evening at RCS. The Kazanetti String Quartet, a local professional string quartet, will be here to perform and coach our students. Ten string quartets and several parents will be involved.
Six of our Ridgeview Chorus Students passed the first Georgia All-State Chorus audition! The students are Chamlee Brown, Piper Clark, Maria Jackson, Sadaf Mirzai, Clare O’Neill, and Alima Sore. For the audition, the students had to sing 3 scales, a song, recall 4 tonal memory examples, and “sightsing” 3 examples before a panel of judges. These six students scored grades that were the best in the state! They will attend a second audition in January. When they pass the second audition, they will be official members of the 2010 Georgia All-State Chorus. Congratulations! These students have worked hard to achieve this high choral honor!

Chorus Students participate in the GME District V Event Six Ridgeview Chorus students will participate in the Georgia Music Educators District V Honor Chorus event, which will be held at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7. The students will rehearse with other honor chorus students from Fulton County and Atlanta City Schools all day Friday, Saturday morning, and present a concert for family and friends at 3 PM on Saturday afternoon. Ridgeview’s Honor Chorus District V students are Erika Espinoza, Halle Ewing, Evelyn Kelley, Keri Nemeroff, Minela Sejdin, and Joey Weiss.

Chorus, Band and Orchestra Fall Concert Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7pm
Ridgeview Charter School presents the Band, Chorus, and Orchestra in a Fall Concert on Thursday, October 29, 2009. A variety of music will be performed—from classical to jazz to pop to folk tunes. Over half of the Ridgeview student population is involved in one of our performing groups. The students work hard to prepare music for our Ridgeview family and friends to hear! Don’t miss this wonderful evening of entertainment! We’ll see everyone on Thursday, October 29, for the Ridgeview Music Department’s Fall Concert. The Concert is free and everyone is invited! Don’t cook, beat the traffic...Have Dinner At Ridgeview Before The Fall Concert! 5:30pm-6:45pm This will be our First Annual Dinner and Music event. In celebration of the end of Hispanic Heritage month, some of our very own Ridgeview families will be preparing authentic tacos, rice and beans. We will also be selling Chick-fil-A sandwiches. Orchestra News Three orchestra students will audition this Saturday for the All-State Orchestra. Their names are: Aberendi Alvear-violin, Sara Lozo-violin, and Aliyah Bufford-viola. This requires extra practice and is a great learning experience. Congratulations to these students for their extraordinary effort.

All State Chorus Auditions, October 10, 2009 19 Ridgeview students will audition for the Georgia All-State Chorus at Dutchtown Middle School on Saturday, October 10. The students prepare a song, sing three scales, demonstrate sight singing skills, and demonstrate tonal memory in front of a panel of two judges. We are proud of these Ridgeview students as they audition for this high honor in our state.

RCS String Quartets to Perform--Four RCS Eighth grade string quartets will perform Saturday, Sept 19th at 7:00 p.m in the lobby of the Eatonton, Ga. Cultural Arts Center. The world renowned Manhattan String Quartet is performing onstage at the Cultural Arts Center at 7:30 that night. Several of our RCS Orchestra students will attend this concert. We thank many RCS Orchestra parents who have volunteered their time to drive students to this concert. The Manhattan String Quartet has performed all over the world for the last 30 years. Our students are extremely lucky to have the opportunity to hear them in person. John Dexter, violist in the Manhattan String Quartet stated that he first started playing string quartet music when he was in Middle School in Iowa. All of the members of the group strongly support string education and the teaching chamber music in schools. They have invited our students to perform before their concert.

Ridgeview's Choir sings at the Heritage Sandy Springs Concert Series, Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 6:30pm Come and enjoy the first concert of the series, featuring Banks & Shane. Our choir will sing the Star Spangled Banner before the concert.

Chamber Music Dessert Concert Tuesday, May 5th is our annual Chamber Music Dessert Concert at 7p.m. in the RCS Cafeteria. All RCS Orchestra students will perform in small ensembles, mostly string quartets. This is a great opportunity to hear individuals perform. Please plan to bring relatives and friends to support the RCS Orchestra students. We will serve tasty desserts for the audience to enjoy during the concert. This is a beautiful evening that you don’t want to miss. Please join us!
Chorus Spring Concert May 7 at 7pm The Ridgeview Charter School Chorus will present their Spring Concert in the beautiful Sanctuary of Peachtree Presbyterian Church (3434 Roswell Rd.) on Thursday, May 7, at 7:00 PM. A variety of styles of music will be presented—16th century madrigals, classical, rock and roll, and contemporary. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend this event. The church is publicizing the chorus concert, also, inviting members of the church and their community. Please come and support our extraordinary choral students in this culminating 2008-2009 performance.

Strike Up The Bands! April 30, 2009 RCS Honor, Intermediate, Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II will be performing at Riverwood High School’s “Old Gym” along with the Riverwood Symphonic Band, Riverwood Cadet Band and the combined bands from Heards Ferry, Lake Forest and High Point Elementary Schools. Students must be in place by 6:15 pm. Concert starts at 7 pm. Reception will follow in the Cafeteria. Each family is to bring something sweet or salty for the reception that follows. Families are asked to Park in the tiered Parking Lot next to the auditorium and main entrance of school. Drop off item(s) for reception in Cafeteria, then, go to gym for concert.

Band Festival March 26 and 27, 2009 The RCS Intermediate Band will pefrom on March 26 at 11am at Northview High School for the Large Group Performance Evaluation and The Honor Band will perform on Friday at Northview High School at 10:45am. The Band Festival or Large Group Performance Evaluation, is held annually to assess the student’s progress in instrumental music. The students perform 3 selections from an approved list of music. Three Adjudicators evaluate the students’ performance and give a rating of 1 to 5 (1 is best). These are also called Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor, respectively. The groups then perform a piece of music they have never seen before to test their music reading skills. This is rated as above by a 4th judge. Good luck to our two bands!

KUDOS to our Orchestra Congratulations to the Honor Orchestra for receiving a Superior rating at the GMEA Performance Evaluation and an Excellent rating on their sight reading evaluation on Feb,19. With Ms. Sorrells, our students worked extra hard to achieve this honor. They are a feather in the Ridgeview cap and another reason why we’re such a terrific school.
Congratulations to the RCS Chorus Our chorus students received superior ratings for every aspect of the evaluation of their performance in the Chorus Festival on February 20. Congratulations!

Pre-Festival Performance at Riverwood HS February 24 is the band’s Pre-Festival Performance. Band students must be in the Riverwood Auditorium by 6:15pm. The performance starts at 7pm with the Intermediate Band, followed by the Honor Band and then by Riverwood’s Concert Band. Students must make arrangements to get to Riverwood with all their necessary equipment and materials.
Jazz Band invited to the Capitol Ridgeview’s Jazz Band has been invited to perform at the Georgia State Capitol building on Friday, March 6. This performance is part of the Lunchtime Concerts for the Legislative Assembly.

Orchestra Performance Evaluation February 19 at Westlake HS The RCS Honor Orchestra will perform on February 19 at Wesltake High School. The performance will be evaluated by three professional judges. The students will also be graded on one sight reading section and will attend a brief clinic. The students will return to Ridgeview at 6pm.
Chorus Festival February 20, 2009 The Ridgeview Chorus will participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation, which used to be called “Festival”. Every middle school and high school Chorus in Georgia is given the opportunity to be graded on a performance by a panel of judges. This event is one of our most important Chorus events of the year! Our school is a member of District V, which includes all Fulton County and Atlanta City schools, private and public. Choruses sing for each other and are graded by expert choral judges on performing and music sight reading. Our chorus students have been working hard for this event, which will occur on Friday morning, February 20, at Alpharetta High School. Our students will leave to the event at 8:30 AM and return to Ridgeview at approximately 12:30 PM. Congratulations and best wishes to every Ridgeview Chorus student! Dr. Messer is the organizer this year for our district’s middle school choral LGPE.

District Band February 20 and 21, 2009 Three of our students have been selected to the District Band by audition: Audrey LeSage in French Horn, Phillip deGolian in Alto Sax, and Travis Dean in Clarinet. These students competed against other middle school students from Fulton County, the City of Atlanta and private schools within Fulton County. Our students will join with others selected to rehearse and present a concert.

Choral Cluster Concert Jan. 27 at 4:30PM @ Riverwood HS' Auditorium All choruses in our cluster of schools (Heards Ferry Elementary, High Point Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary, Ridgeview Charter Middle, and Riverwood High) will perform for each other. Even the Ridgeview Guys’ Chorus will perform with the Riverwood High School Men’s Chorus!!
Parents, family, and friends are welcome to attend the Concert which will begin at 4:30 PM. All parents should pick up their students at Riverwood High School following the Concert at 5:30 PM. Hearing all the choruses in our cluster allows us to appreciate the fine talents of students of all ages in our community!!

Band Students Selected to the Realto All-Star Jazz Ensemble The following Jazz Band members have been selected to the Rialto All-Star Jazz Ensemble conducted by Dr. Gordon Vernick of Georgia State University. They will rehearse with about 15 other students from around metro Atlanta and present of concert in April at the Rialto Jazz Festival.

Band News… Congratulations to Phillip deGolian, Travis Dean, and Audrey LeSage who passed the district level tryouts for the Georgia Middle School All-State Band! The District Honor Event will be held February 20-21st at Northwestern Middle School. The concert will take place at Milton High School (right across the street) on February 20th. Mr. Steven Tyndall will be our clinician for the weekend. Congratulations to these band members for their outstanding representation of Ridgeview.
November 14, 2008 RCS Orchestra Students Travel to Athens this Weekend
28 RCS Orchestra students will attend the American String Teachers Association Chamber Music Workshop this weekend, November 14 and 15, in Athens, Georgia. The 28 students represent 5 string quartets and 1 string octet.
Students will leave via Charter Bus (provided by the Ridgeview Foundation) at 3:00 on Friday, and return Saturday evening about 7:00 p.m. Students will be coached in their string quartets by UGA music faculty and other professional string players. Each student string quartet will perform in concert Sat. afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Edge Recital Hall on the UGA campus. Parents are invited. Chorus News: Commendations and congratulations go to Katie Kennedy, Melissa Letzler, and Whitnee Morgan for participating in the Georgia Music Educators’ District V Honor Chorus on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8. After rehearsing for many hours, our three 8th graders joined other Honor Chorus students in Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools for hours of rehearsal followed by a beautiful concert at Druid Hills United Methodist Church.
Congratulations to 7th grader Chamlee Brown for “making the cut” in the first round of Georgia All-State Choral auditions! These auditions are very difficult, and we, again, congratulate Chamlee for her hard work!

Three RCS 8th grade Orchestra students were selected Sept. 14th by audition to rehearse and perform with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony’s String Orchestra. Congratulations to cellist, Saulo Melo, violist, Jesus Abarca and violist, Kevin Cuica who will be rehearsing every Sunday afternoon at GSU with this String Orchestra.
Seven RCS Orchestra students attended the Kazanetti String Quartet performance in Eatonton, Ga. on September 7th. Students who attended were: 6th graders, Jaycie Emery, Aliyah Bufford and Palmer Jones, 7th grader, Alberendi Alvear, and 8th graders Alexi Alvear, Jesus Abarca and Saulo Melo. Special thanks to Palmer’s mother and Jaycie’s mother for driving.
